It is the 8th of March today and INTERACT is celebrating the International Women’s Day. Being a global event celebrated on the 8th of March every year since 1911, this day is intended to commemorate women’s social, cultural, economic, and political achievements. Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. When it comes to science, and in particular science related to the polar regions, a lot has happened in relation to gender equality. Networks, such as Women in Polar Science, have developed, and the International collaborative project Gender Equality in the Arctic is highlighting the importance of recognition and appreciation of diversity. Their latest report can be read here. Together we can make not only the scientific community, but also the world, a more equal place.
