Today we are celebrating the International day of Women in Science, and for INTERACTers – of course Women in Polar Science have a special place.

Did you know that women are typically given smaller research grants than their male colleagues and, while they represent 33.3% of all researchers, only 12% of members of national science academies are women. But things are brightening up – in the past 50 years alone, women have gone from being barred from Arctic field sites, to leading international research expeditions, directing national and international research organizations, and serving as mentors to the next generation of Arctic researchers.
