Dr. Matthew Ayre joined the Arctic Institute of North America as a post-doctoral fellow in 2017. He read for his undergraduate degree in Geography at the University of Sunderland, UK where he went on to complete his PhD in Historical Climatology. His research draws on the surviving documents from the 19th Century British Arctic whaling trade to reconstruct the past Arctic climate and explore the legacy of this industry on the Canadian Arctic.
Dr. Ayre brings extensive Northern fieldwork experience to KLRS, having conducted field campaigns in Yukon, Alaska, Nunavut, the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. Alongside his research Dr. Ayre brings over a decade of experience in education and outreach programming. In 2018 he was shortlisted for the Governor General’s History Award for Excellence in Teaching and will be working to develop educational programming for KLRS. Please contact us if you would like to learn how you can bring your class or field school to the station.
